Self Help!

Don’t panic! It won’t hurt you.

And I promise—you are not a loser for seeking help. Let’s face it, life can be pretty shitty when we can’t seem to pull ourselves off of the running wheel that is taking us nowhere. We see other people living their dreams and wonder how they did it. I’ve heard too many people say, “We are not like them. We could never do that.” I used to be one of those people until I got tired of running and getting no closer to anything that resembled a happy life. Then my self-help journey began. So what about you? What can it hurt to at least try? Just pick up a book and give it a chance. There are so many of us out here who want to see you live a more fulfilled, purpose-driven and happy life.

“So how am I suppose to know what books to choose?”

I thought you might ask that question. No worries my friend. I’m here to help you. The first book I would recommend to you is Jen Sincero’s You Are A Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life (2013).

There are so many good things to say about this book. It’s funny, inspiring and totally in your face. Jen Sincero is indeed a badass. And so am I and you can be too. Needless to say, I give this book 5-Stars.

And here she is in all of her bad-asserry! I present to you–Jen Sincero, #1 New York Times bestselling author, success coach and motivational speaker. Jen has helped many transform their lives. The title alone is catchy and tells us right off the bat that it’s ok to express our greatness to the world. Often times saying and thinking awesome things about ourselves is frowned upon as society is so frightened of being seen as selfish. News flash: acknowledging that you rock at something is not being selfish, it’s being honest. Jen helps us explore why we have limiting thoughts about ourselves, money, our abilities and life itself. Jen is not shy about calling us on our bull-shit. She expresses how getting over unreasonable fears can help us achieve unimaginable things.

I purchased this audiobook while I was living in China.  And I have to say there is an added bonus of getting to hear Jen comedically narrate her own book.  One chapter in, I ordered two printed copies of this book and had them sent stateside to my daughter and to a dear friend. I just had to share this gem I had stumbled upon. Listening to this book changed my life. And it continues to do so as I cannot tell you how many times I’ve re-listened to this audiobook. I’ve been around the block in the self-help world.and this book is my all-time favorite.

Jen encourages us not only to put our positive thoughts out there in the universe but to be specific about what we desire. You will be amazed at how quickly this works. But here’s the caveat; you have to choose to believe that putting positive energy into the universe comes back to you. If you don’t, just remember it all works in reverse too. So I’m kinda getting in your face and saying that if your thinkin’ is stinkin’ then you are probably not going to see positive results.  And please, let’s be realistic, you have to move.  You have to do your part. As Jen states in her book, “In order to kick ass, you must first lift up your foot.”
